Successful Regeneration of the Anthurium Red Vein Dark Phoenix from Leaf Explants!

Since 2024, we have been working on developing a tissue culture protocol for the  Anthurium Red Vein Dark Phoenix. 

Leaf-explant culture in Anthurium presents considerable challenges. Adventitious shoot induction is particularly difficult, and compared with seed-derived explants, leaf explants also require more rigorous management of the risks associated with latent viral infections and endophytic fungal contamination. 

After two years of repeated protocol optimization and extensive trial and error, we have finally succeeded in inducing and developing fully regenerated plantlets! 

Clonal propagation from leaf explants helps preserve the desirable traits of the original mother plant, avoids the genetic segregation inherent in seed propagation, and enables more consistent replication of its leaf morphology, plant architecture, and ornamental characteristics. 

Moving forward, we will invest further in the development of leaf-explant-based clonal propagation protocols.
